| EVENTS FOR 2011-2012 MARCH We visited the Theatre Royal Stratford East where Matcham carried out some refurbishment works in 1902. MAY Ten years ago we visited Bratislava as guests of the Slovak theatre Institute and this month we paid a return visit to see the new National Theatre by the River Danube. JUNE Our AGM this year was in Liverpool at the Unity Theatre following a visit to the Everyman before its rebuild commenced. JULY This month we visited the Noel Coward Theatre in London as guests of the Cameron Mackintosh Organisation. SEPTEMBER A new book titled A Theatre for all Seasons by Michael Hasted with a foreward by Steven Berkoff is being published to coincide with the re-opening of the Cheltenham Everyman - see the September Newsletter article by Giles Woodforde. For more information about the book go to http://everymanbook.com OCTOBER We visited Llandudno early this month to coincide with the book-launch of Lost Love in Llandudno - It's Theatres and Cinemas. NOVEMBER This year’s successful theatre seminar 'Theatres & Music Halls at Risk' was held on the 3rd November at the newly restored City Varieties Theatre in Leeds. Later in the month we toured the London Palladium organised courtesy of the Really Useful Group. DECEMBER Instead of an organised visit to Panto at the Hackney Empire an informal group of members decided to go ahead anyway. MAY A visit to the Netherlands is scheduled for early May. It will include the Carre in Amsterdam and theatres in Leiden, Haarlem and the Hague. The 2012 AGM will be held in London on May 19th - venue to be announced. JUNE A tour of Colchester and Clacton theatres is planned for June. NEWS & MEDIA REPORTS ABOUT THEATRE The London Palladium Story a two part documentary presented by Michael Grade was broadcast recently on BBC Radio 2 followed by a repeat on BBC Four television of the 100 Years of the Palladium programme. The Story of Music Hall with Michael Grade went out in January on BBC Four preceded earlier in 2011 by The Story of Variety with Michael Grade. Some programme information may still be available on the BBC website. Also currently on the BBC are repeats of the Palace of Laughter radio series on digital Radio 4 Extra on Sundays. All three of the BBC Four TV programmes The Story of Musicals are still available to replay on BBC iPlayer. Clearance of the adjoining nondescript buildings reveals the Matcham theatre in its entirety.
